Over 10,000 Institutions Register as Tanzania Strengthens Data Protection Framework
Tanzania has taken a major step toward strengthening personal data governance, with more than 10,000 public and private institutions completing registration with the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).
The registered institutions include organisations involved in collecting, storing, and processing personal data across sectors such as finance, telecommunications, healthcare, education, and digital services.
PDPC officials say the high registration rate reflects increased awareness of data privacy obligations and the importance of protecting citizens’ personal information in a rapidly digitalising economy. To ensure full compliance, the commission has extended the registration deadline to allow remaining institutions additional time to meet legal requirements.
Strengthening data protection is expected to build public trust in digital services, reduce cyber risks, and support the growth of e-commerce, digital finance, and innovation.
The development underscores Tanzania’s commitment to creating a secure, transparent, and accountable digital ecosystem aligned with global best practices.
